Lighting Light Types

There are many light types of lighting fixtures, from outdoor lighting to indoor lighting. Ever light type has its own purpose and function to achieve human's visual comforts and different occasion's needs. Here is a image for integrated view.

General light: This is the most common light type, you see it everyday. Such as your living room ceiling lamps with incandescent light bulbs, the main purpose of general light is simply illuminate all of the room for general use.

Floodlight: It is a type of light that used for outdoor field, such as football pitch, piazza, gathering and night security light for large amount of people. It has the wide beams than medium lights.

Medium light: This light's range is between the floodlight and spot light.

Spot light: A type projected by stage lighting instrument called spotlight, used for highlighting the main singers, performers or actors on the stage. So it is more bright but narrow beam.

Adjustable light: It literally means the light sources can be adjusted and move around, so the lights can go a wide angle(even 360 degree) to satisfy usage. Practical products may use for stage lighting like moving head lights and task lighting like table lamp.

Indirect light: Indirect means the light sources do not directly shoot the lights on the objects or spaces, often it may shoot 90% of all lights to ceiling or wall and then reflect back, and meanwhile allow about 10% lights pass through directly. Also half indirect means use acrylic sheet or semitransparent frosted glass to block light sources partially, allow more lights(about 30%) pass through lampshade than indirect light method.

Direct light: This method is the most common in everyone's house, mostly used for ceiling lamp, dinning room lamp, storey lamp, stairway lamp and balcony lamp. The light sources are not blocked at all, almost all the lights are shot to the surface of a room. Half direct method refers to employ lampshade veil the above part of light source and let them diffuse to ceiling.
